Many essential oils help to break up hard mucus.
Eucalyptus, mint and pine essential oils are highly effective in eliminating sinus congestion. They have strong refreshing aroma, which enhances their therapeutic effect.

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus radiata) alleviates breathing, which strongly stimulates the immune system, and also has antibacterial and antiviral activity.

Pine relieves the pain and refreshes the body . It has a very strong therapeutic effect on respiratory tract infections, bronchitis and asthma. It is especially effective in combination with eucalyptus essential oils.

Niaouli and rosemary oil can also remove nasal congestion caused by colds. Niaouli essential oil can also help calming irritated and inflamed mucous membranes. It works extremely antiviral, and antibacterial. One of the most important antiallergenic among the essential oils.

Rosemary is powerful in fighting bacteria (streptococcus , Escherichia coli), alleviates breathing, stimulates circulation and relieves pain.

Calm headache

Headache due to blockage of the nose and sinus inflammation is another common condition that accompanies a cold.

Peppermint and lavender oil can contribute reducing these problems.

Peppermint successfully relieves headaches and migraines with its analgesic-cooling properties, and has anti-inflammatory activity. Use it when feeling nausea, fatigue and  dizziness.

Lavender is also effective for relieving headaches and the elimination of internal restlessness, irritability and problems with insomnia.

Clear the throat

It is believed that lemon essential oil is good for coughing and clearing the airways, and can help in suppressing chest tightness.

Essential oils of cedarwood and niaouli are useful to help relieve the bronchi.

Cedar successfully helps against colds, coughs, bronchitis and flu. Soothes, clears the mind and strengthens the emotional and mental stability.

Australian tea tree oil has powerful antiviral and antibacterial properties.

Steam inhalation, diffuser and hot aromatherapy bath are three very beneficial ways to exploit the healing properties of essential oils .

Inhaling essential oils is the most effective method against flu and colds.

Use essential oils interchangeably, since each has a slightly different characteristic properties .

For maximum efficiency make five or six steam inhalations per day .

With this kind of treatment, more does not mean better. For example, adding more peppermint oil can easily cause skin irritation and discomfort in the airway during inhalation .

If the steam gets in your eyes, there will be pricking so keep them closed during the inhalation.

Concentration of essential oils can vary depending on the products you use, so you must always follow the application instructions provided on the product label.
